THE OBJECTIVE
Update the visual identity as well as user interface and experience for an existing iOS app in the math homework / on-demand tutor space.

THE JOURNEY
I worked for 6 months as the sole Lead Designer for Toot Inc, creators of the Homework Answers app, led by two of Forbes’ 30 under 30. I began the journey by creating a logo and visual identity for their app, which at the moment was non-existent. To start, I researched the current market and competitors, and presented two design directions:


 

 

We went in the direction of the “Energy” selection.

From there, I created a primary logo as well as an accent logo / mark for the app.

 

 

After the identity was confirmed, we began a design overhaul, starting with app store previews and app overviews. Here’s a comparison of the old versus the new:

 

 

I completed several weeks of user experience research and worked with the team’s iOS developers on a steady rollout of updated experience and interface changes over the next few months. These included the updated visual identity paired with illustrations – for a primarily teenage user base. We also developed a new “parent account” feature.

 

 

 

THE RESULTS

A fresh brand identity, illustration library, and user interface + experience to set the company up for increased users and Series A round funding.
